Kondoz, also Qonduz, town, northeastern Afghanistan, capital of Kondoz Province, near the Tajikistan border. Located in a semiarid region, it is the chief economic center for an oasis irrigated by the Kondoz River. Silk and cotton textiles and processed food are major products. A modern airfield is here and highways extend north to the Tajik border and south to Kabul, the nation's capital.
