Kabwe, formerly Broken Hill, city, central Zambia, capital of Central Province. Zinc and lead ores are produced in the vicinity of the city from a mine that, in addition to the ores, has yielded large quantities of fossil bones and primitive implements of Khoikhoi and San type. In 1921 an incomplete skeleton of a type of early human, the Rhodesian man, was discovered here.
