São Tomé, town, capital of the island state of Sao Tome and Principe, western Africa, on the northeastern coast of São Tomé island, on the Atlantic Ocean. It is the country's principal port and handles exports dominated by cacao, copra, and bananas. The town has limited light manufacturing, with products that include soap, beverages, and tiles.
