Owo, large agricultural town southwestern Nigeria, in Ondo State. Yams, cassava, maize (corn), okra, peppers, and other locally produced crops are traded at the Owo market. Cocoa and cotton are also cultivated in the surrounding area. Owo is well known for various crafts, including wood sculpture, carving in ivory and calabash (the gourd from the calabash tree), decorative pottery, terra cotta, and brass casting. A federal polytechnic institute, Saint John's Teacher Training College, and a museum are located in Owo. Roads link Owo with Benin City to the south, Akure to the west and Ikare to the north.
