Offa, town in southwestern Nigeria, in Kwara state. Located in a savanna area, Offa serves as a trading center for crops grown in the surrounding region, such as yams, cassava, maize, sorghum, and shea nuts. Cattle, goats, sheep, and poultry are also raised in the environs. Offa is known for its weaving and dyeing, using vegetable dyes made from locally grown indigo and other plants. The city is on the railway line from Lagos and served as its terminus before the line was extended north to Kano and Nguru. Offa is connected by road to Ilorin to the north, and to Ikirun and Oshogbo to the south. A traditional Yoruba settlement, Offa was first settled around AD 1000.
