Ilawe Ekiti, town in southwestern Nigeria, in Ekiti state. The economy of Ilawe Ekiti is based on small-scale agriculture, crafts, and trade. Yams, cassava, peanuts, maize (corn), peppers, tomatoes, and plantains are among the principal food crops. Dwarf cattle, goats, sheep, and poultry are also raised. Cocoa and kola nuts are significant cash crops. The palm tree is particularly important to the local economy, yielding items such as palm oil, palm kernels, palm wine, and material for making baskets, rope, brooms, trays, sieves, stools, and beds. Crafts include spinning, weaving, and dyeing cloth and woodworking. Ilawe Ekiti is located on the road connecting Akure and Ilesa. The city was settled by members of the Ekiti branch of the Yoruba.
