Abeokuta, town, southwestern Nigeria, capital of Ogun State. It is connected to Lagos by rail and serves as the shipping center for an area in which cacao, palm kernels, and palm oil are produced. Handwoven fabrics are dyed in local factories. Abeokuta is inhabited largely by the Yoruba people.
