Nampula, city, eastern Mozambique, capital of Nampula Province. It is on a railroad that runs east to the port of Lumbo, on Mozambique Channel opposite the island and town of Moçambique. Nampula is a trade center in an area producing cotton, vegetables, corn, peanuts, and forest products. Population (1990 estimate) 202,600.
