Nouadhibou, formerly Port-Étienne, town, northwestern Mauritania, administrative center of Dakhlet-Nouadhibou Region, on the Atlantic Ocean. It is a fishing and fish-processing center. The nearby seaport of Point Central in 1963 became the shipping center for iron ore produced in the interior around Fdérik.
