Al Mansurah, city in northeastern Egypt, capital of Daqahliyah Governorate, on the Damietta Branch of the Nile River. It is a commercial and manufacturing center; products include textiles and processed food. Al Mansurah University (1972) and Al Mansurah Polytechnic Institute (1957) are here. The settlement, established in the early 13th century, was the scene of a famous battle in 1250 in which Muslims defeated Crusaders and captured Louis IX of France. Population 371,000 (1992 estimate).
