Matadi, town, western Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC, formerly Zaire), capital of Bas Congo Region, a seaport on the estuary of the Congo River, near the Angolan border. It is connected by rail with Kinshasa. Most of the products of the DRC, other than the minerals of Katanga Region, including coffee, cocoa, rice, timber, palm products, cotton, copal, and minerals, are exported from Matadi, which has one of the largest harbors in Central Africa.
