Kikwit, town, southwestern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC, formerly Zaire), in Bandundu Region, a port on the Cuilo River (a tributary of the Kasai River). It is a shipping, commercial, and manufacturing center situated in an agricultural region, where palm products, peanuts, and manioc are produced. Kikwit was developed as an administrative center of the Belgian Congo (now the DRC) in the early 20th century.
